The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is an aviation museum which displays a number of military and civilian aircraft and spacecraft, most notably, the Hughes H-4 Hercules “Spruce Goose”. The museum is located in McMinnville, Oregon, across the street from the headquarters of Evergreen International Aviation at the McMinnville Municipal Airport. This huge aircraft is quite a sight. It’s 319 foot wingspan is longer than the Boeing 747-8, and Airbus A380-800…and it’s made out of wood! Look down in this panoramic to click to another view of this aircraft. This second panoramic gives a better view of the size of this wooden beast.

The museum has another large, matching building, which is dedicated to space flight. The current center of this space flight exhibit is occupied by the SR-71 ‘Blackbird’, which originally rested under one wing of the Spruce Goose. The museum claims to be in the front running to obtain one of the Space Shuttles when they are retired in 2010 (they even show it on their museum maps as a future exhibit). It’s hard to imagine the Spruce Goose, a SR-71 Blackbird, a Titan II missile, and the Space Shuttle, all in a small town in rural Oregon…..

The panoramic was taken just outside our room at the Cave B Inn in Quincy, Washington (about two hours west of Seattle). The individual guest rooms are located about 900 feet above the Columbia River, and offer spectacular views of the river gorge. I shot this panoramic freehand, so there is parallax problem that occurred with the guesthouse. This is what happens when you’re too lazy to pull out the tripod….

We got the opportunity to stay at a fantastic ranch in Grant County, Washington just outside the town of Moses Lake. It’s a sprawling property with acres of both irrigated land, and natural eastern Washington landscape. In the foreground of this image is one of several irrigation circles on this property. This circle is irrigating an approximate 2000 foot diameter cattle grazing area, but is limited to a range of about 135 degrees due to the topography.

In this panoramic it is possible to make out some of the basalt bluffs and outcroppings on the property. Following the road into the distance, you can make out an outcropping where the basalt has form into pillar or column formations. Several basalt column pillars, which were quarried from another location on the property, were used in the construction of the house in this image. Each corner of this incredible house has a large basalt column. These pillars, along with the massive column in the center, carry the weight of the roof and allow the house to have a large amount of open space.

The Sound Transit Link light rail alignment has finally opened, and now it’s time to put it to good use. This map features some of the restaurants and happy hours that are a short walk from some of the downtown stations. The parking nightmare is over!

This is another Chichen Itza free-hand panoramic that was taken in the the Great Ball Court about 300 feet to the north-west of the pyramid El Castillo. It is by far the the largest ball court in ancient Mesoamerica measuring 545 feet by 232 feet.  The imposing walls are 36 feet high, and in the center, high up on each of the long walls, are rings carved with intertwining serpents.   At the far end is the North Temple where you can just barely make out Tasha checking out the ruined building.  Check out the hi rez version of the panorama and see if you could make the “Apocalypto” dash….

We arrived at our hotel the Hacienda Chichen the night before, and woke up early to avoid the masses that arrive by tour bus later in the morning. This panoramic was taken next to the pyramid El Castillo near the center of the Chichen Itza site. The image has some serious parallax problems (notice the disappearing rope lines). I had to shoot the panoramic freehand when my tripod was confiscated at the ticket booth. I was able to pick up later, but you do need a special permit to use a tripod within the ruin site. Unfortunately you’re no longer able to climb the stairs of the pyramid. El Castillo was closed to the public after a San Diego woman fell to her death in 2006. In the distance of this panorama, you can see Tasha walking towards the Temple of Jaguars.

Mount Si lies on the western margin of the Cascade Range just above the coastal plains around Puget Sound, and towers over the nearby town of North Bend. The hike up Mount Si is 4 miles from the parking lot to the summit plateau, with a vertical elevation change of about 3700 feet. Poor Bixby pooped out about a quarter of the way up, but he was still able to give that chipmunk hell from inside the backpack
